City officials recently expressed the full support of the local government to the conduct of the Salun-at Food Festival on November 24-26, 2023 simultaneously at Malcolm Square and Igorot Garden as part of the observance of the National Environmental Awareness Month every November pursuant to the pertinent provisions of Republic Act (RA) 9512 otherwise known as the Environmental Awareness Act.
In a resolution authored by Councilor Betty Lourdes F. Tabanda, local legislators stated that the city government recognizes the importance of educating the people that the Earth provides resources that are essential to their well being and quality of life and there are a wide range of plants available as food sources.
RA 9512 otherwise known as the National Environmental Awareness and Education Act of 2008, was enacted to promote environmental awareness through environmental education. It defines the policy of the State to the right of the people to a balanced and healthy environment.
The council pointed out that environmental education helps the people understand the issues and builds their knowledge and skills to be able to address environmental issues and to take the appropriate actions.
As set forth in RA 9512, every November shall be known as the Environmental Awareness Month throughout the country.
The Salun-at Wellness Festival and Blue Zones Wellness and Longevity Movement will hold the Salun-at Food Festival on November 24-26, 2023 simultaneously at Malcolm Square and Igorot Garden with the theme ‘Healthy Food and a Healthy Life for a Healthy Environment.’
The event advocates healthy food choices for healthy and productive communities leading to a healthier environment.
According to the council, the Salun-at Food Festival will feature food stalls for a variety of plant-based cooked food; Baguio fruits and vegetables and cooking demos.
A lecture-workshop at the YMCA building to educate the people using science-based data on the benefits of plant-based food for preventing diseases, restoring back their health to living a longer productive life and how all of these positively impacts the ecosystem and the environment will also be held for the said purpose.
