CONNER, Apayao – The Municipality of Conner celebrated Elderly Filipino Week (EFW) on October 8, 2024, at PADM Gymnasium, Caglayan in this town, with the theme “Senior Citizens – Building the Nation, Inspiring Generations.”
It coincides with the national celebration of said activity, which runs from October 1 to October 7, honoring and recognizing the vital contributions of senior persons to society.
Dr. Nobleza C. Sadao, Board Secretary V of Apayao State College and the keynote speaker, encouraged the elderly, saying “being a senior citizen is a privilege and a gift from God,” because it allows seniors to spend more time with family and friends.
Sadao also mentioned that older folks’ life experiences cross generational lines, connecting the past and present and guiding future generations, persuading her fellow seniors to stay involved in their communities and participate in activities that challenge both their minds and bodies.
During the ceremony, Mayor Jorico F. Bayaua conveyed his deep gratitude to Conner’s senior people, praising them for their wisdom and advice, which continue to inspire future generations.
Bayaua also urged the senior citizens to continue serving their communities, emphasizing the importance of their guidance. The mayor also commended the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office for sponsoring the event, which serves as an opportunity to recognize Conner’s elderly.
As part of the event, a fashion show was conducted to highlight traditional clothes, encouraging new generations to value their elders’ wisdom and experiences.
In addition, the municipal government recognized the contributions of three centenarians in Conner by awarding them ₱20,000 each. By Michelle Acantilado
