TUBA, Benguet – Local agricultural products of Tuba, Benguet are now being showcased in its municipal grounds in celebration of their 113th Founding Anniversary.
DA-CAR RED Jennilyn Dawayan and Tuba Mayor Clarita Sal-ongan led the opening of the agri-tourism trade fair this morning, Dec. 5, and witnessed by the officialdom of Tuba and agri-stakeholders at the provincial level. The agri-tourism fair boasts the different locally-produced and processed products of the 13 barangays of the municipality. These products are primarily leafy vegetables, root and tuber crops, fruits, and legumes. For processed products, these include pastries, condiments, and wines, among others.
In her message, RED Dawayan recognized the incomparable efforts of farmers and fisherfolk ensuring food security not only in the municipality but rather in the Cordillera region. Integrating agriculture with tourism further elevates the farmers and the agricultural landscape that piques the interest of tourists and locals alike. This opens arrays of opportunities on livelihood and innovations.
She added that as per records, the DA-CAR has provided the municipality at least Php303.2 million worth of major interventions since FY2022. Said interventions include farm-to-market roads, facilities, machinery and equipment, irrigation systems, cash assistance and inputs.
“Your resiliency embodies the spirit of growth in the sustainable innovation and development of the agriculture sector,” said Dir. Dawayan. Hence, she emphasized on the agency’s thrust towards clustering and consolidation of farmers in terms of produce which is crucial to establishing institutional partnerships to fulfill the needs of the market.
Tuba’s theme for this year is ‘Sihad Tuba’ which is loosely translated to ‘standing firm’. This accordingly reflects the characteristic that is rooted deeply to the i-Tubanians. Through this, they are reminded to embrace ‘sihad’ as they move forward to their common goals with resilience and perseverance.
Aside from the agri-fair that will run until December 9, a Farmer’s Day will also be celebrated tomorrow, Dec. 6, wherein the DA-CAR will distribute 100 packets of 9 in 1 vegetable seeds. By Janice B. Agrifino
