QUEZON CITY – Cordillera Judo Association participants to the 2016 University of the Philippines Judo Invitational Tournament dubbed ”2016 JUDO SLAM” shone anew by bringing home two gold medals, and two bronze medals in the recently concluded judo invitational tournament held at the University of the Philippines College of Human Kinetics gymnasium, UP Diliman, Quezon City on June 4-5, 2016.
The judo tournament, with an annual staging by the UP Diliman College of Human Kinetics and the UP Judo Club, was participated in by different Judo Clubs in the country to vie for the coveted gold medal. The two-day tournament in four divisions for the Kids Age Division, Juniors Division, All White Belt Division and the open Belt Division, was played in twenty-eight categories for boys and girls, men and women categories.
The tournament rules and regulations was adopted from the International Judo Federation refereeing rules and the Judo Union of Asia Technical Code, as well as the Philippine Judo Federation laws on tournament organization, in order that Judokas all over the country will be attuned to the new rules and regulations of international judo competitions, such as the SEA and Olympic games.
With the conclusion of the competition, four Cordillera Judokas from the YMCA-KAITAGI Judo Club made it to the roster of winners; Andrea De Leon, Gold Medal in the Girls Division 13-15 yrs. old category, Maraiah Christine Pauly, Bronze Medal in the girls division 10-12 yrs. old category.
On the other hand, Jed Kim also bagged the gold for the Juniors Boys Division, -73 Kgs. category and Russel Lorenzo bagging the bronze medal for the -55 Kgs. Boys category. Both winners for the boys division are members of the same club and are now scholars of the University of Sto. Tomas. Winners in the competition were given medals and certificates. The tournament convened also in cooperation with the Philippine Judo Federation and other sponsors.
