BAGUIO CITY – The Department of Agriculture-Cordillera through its Kabuhayan at Kaunlaran ng Kababayang Katutubo (4K) Program continues to empower the farming communities in its assisted-ancestral domains in the region. For June 2024, various trainings dedicated to equipping and capacitating the farmers’ organizations were conducted simultaneously.
These training sessions focused on improving organizational management, monitoring and evaluation skills, financial management skills, livestock health management, and sustainable agriculture. These were held within each ancestral domain (AD), ensuring accessibility for members of the indigenous peoples organizations in Tubo, Abra; Lusod-Ambasa and Domolpos-Ansipsip in Itogon, Benguet, and Kadaclan Ancestral Domain in Barlig and Natonin, Mountain Province.
𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐅𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐞 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧
The Program kicked off with an orientation in Domolpos-Ansipsip, Itogon, Benguet. Here, 31 enrollees (12 males and 19 females) from the Domolpos-Ansipsip Ancestral Domain Indigenous Peoples Organization (DAADIPO) were oriented in the season-long program focused on sustainable coffee cultivation. The program includes nursery establishment and weekly sessions tailored to community needs.
𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐜𝐤 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭
Members of LAADIPO in Lusod-Ambasa attended comprehensive training on Cattle and Carabao Production and Health Management, as well as Swine Production and Health Management. These sessions provided practical insights into livestock care, disease prevention, and feed formulation using local resources. Additionally, deworming activities were conducted for cattle and carabao all over the AD to ensure optimal health and productivity.
𝐎𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭
Training on Organizational Management with Leadership and Gender and Development (GAD) was held in Lusod-Ambasa and Kadaclan AD. This training engaged 30 males and 53 females, focusing on strengthening organizational structures, improving governance, and promoting inclusive leadership. Participants also learned parliamentary procedures to streamline decision-making.
𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭
Farmers in Kadaclan and Tubo AD received training in financial management, focusing on bookkeeping and farm recording. A total of 41 males and 65 females gained skills essential for tracking expenses and organizational transactions. These skills are crucial for ensuring financial transparency and making informed decisions for sustainable agriculture. Practical exercises emphasized maintaining organized records and navigating Cash Receipt, Disbursement Journals, and Farm Records.
𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐄𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧
In Tubo AD, 17 males and 26 females participated in training for the Participatory Monitoring and Evaluation Team. This training aimed to enhance project sustainability through effective monitoring and reporting of the activities and projects implemented and its outcomes. It included workshops and presentations on the status and outcomes of various subprojects, such as rice, egg, ginger tea production, cattle raising, and sugarcane processing. Participants also received mobile photography and photo documentation training to improve their reporting skills.
The training sessions were facilitated by the DA-CAR 4K Program staff, Municipal Agriculture Office, and Provincial Veterinary Office, highlighting the collaborative efforts to empower indigenous communities through knowledge-sharing and capacity-building, fostering sustainable development and economic resilience.
