City officials recently endorsed and expressed support to House Bill (HB) 10483 that seeks to grant Benguet Electric Cooperative, Inc. (BENECO) a franchise to construct, install, establish, operate, own, manage, and maintain a distribution system for the conveyance of electric power to the end users in all the municipalities of Benguet and in Baguio City. To the Senate for its favorable action and approval.
Under Resolution No. 624, series of 2024, local legislators stated that as a local government unit, the city is fully aware of the dedication and commitment of BENECO to serve the member-consumer-owners (MCOs) of Baguio and Benguet as it has done since 1973.
The council claimed that BENECO continuous to serve the MCOs with adequate power supply and competitive rates and that the body attests to the cooperative’s untiring effort to address consumers concerns and that they are also proud of BENECO having become one of the most appreciated and top performing electric cooperatives in the country.
The city joined the entire MCOs in Baguio and Benguet in their gratefulness to the House of Representatives for the passage and approval of HB 10483 that sought to renew the franchise of BENECO as a distribution utility.
The bill authored by Baguio Rep. Mark Go, Benguet Rep. Eric Yap , PHILRECA Party-list Rep. Presley de Jesus, Bulacan 2nd District Rep. Agustina Dominique Pancho, Paranaque City 1st District Rep. Edwin L. Olivares, Taguig-Pateros Rep. Ricardo S. Cruz, Jr., Cavite 6th District Rep. Antonio Ferrer, Surigao del Sur 2nd District Rep. Johnny Pimentel, Paranaque City 2nd District Rep. Gus S. Tambunting, Apayao Rep. Eleanor Bulut-Begtang and Mountain Province Rep. Maximo Y. Dalog, Jr. was transmitted to the Senate on August 8, 2024 and received by the Senate on the same day for its appropriate action.
The council stipulated that the passage of this resolution is a reiteration of its unconditional and continuing support to the bill with a fervent prayer that the Senate would favorably act and approve the same for its eventual transmission to the office of the President for signing into law.
