The City Council, during last Monday’s regular session, approved on first reading a proposed ordinance naming the unnamed streets located at Puroks 5 and 6 of barangay St. Joseph Village.
Under the proposed ordinance authored by Councilor Leandro B. Yangot, Jr., the streets located at Purok 5 and 6, St. Joseph Village barangay will be named where the street located at Purok 5 with an estimated length of more or less 280 meters shall be known as Gen. Prospero Olivas in honor of the late Gen. Olivas who was then the Commanding General of the defunct METROCOM in 1971 when the estimated 250 meters of the total area was constructed and the remaining 30 meters was developed sometime in 2009 under a barangay project funded under the 20 percent local development fund during the administration of Punong Barangay John P. Dongla.
Further, the street located at Purok 6 along Balili river which was constructed in 2021 located within the Sinagued compound shall be known as Sinague Cuyan Street. The said compound belongs to Sinague Cuyan, a member of the Ibaloi tribe who occupied the said area since time in memorial. Majority of the occupants are her heirs.
The ordinance staked the City Engineering Office (CEO) to take the appropriate steps to implement the naming of the said streets by installing the appropriate street signages and to indicate the name of the said streets in the official maps of the city.
Yangot claimed that the renaming of the said streets will definitely bring convenience to both residents and tourists and will result to the more effective delivery of goods and services.
The ordinance stated that there are two unnamed streets in barangay St. Joseph Village, previously known as navy Base-Polo Field, located at Puroks 5 and 6 based on the revelation of Punong Barangay Dongla.
The said punong barangay is recommending to adopt the streets located within his area of jurisdiction and name the same as Gen. Prospero Olivas Street and Sinague Cuyan Street. By Dexter A. See
