CAMP FLORENDO, La Union – A newly elected barangay councilor who was listed under the group of personalities involved in illegal drugs was shot dead by unidentified suspects at around 6:20 a.m. in Barangay Poblacion, Tubao, La Union Thursday, July 26, 2018.
Chief Superintendent Romulo Sapitula, regional director of Police Regional Office 1, identified the victim as Nielo Figueroa Baltazar, a resident of Barangay Pablacion.
Sapitula said Baltazar was on board his Toyota Vios car parked in front of his residence when he was shot several times by unidentified suspects on board a white van.
Police reported that Baltazar was linked to the “Amang Drug Group” operating in La Union. He was listed as a “drug pusher” in Tubao.
“Some members of the Amang drug group were arrested and some have already died in police operations,” Sapitula said.
Sapitula instructed the La Union police to conduct thorough investigation on the incident.
