BAGUIO CITY – The City Council passed a resolution expressing the heartfelt condolences of the people and officialdom of Baguio to the bereaved family of the late former La Union 2nd district Rep. Eufranio ‘Franny’ Eriguel and commending him for his faithful and committed services to the Province of La Union and the country as well.
The resolution stated that the outstanding commitment and dedicated public service of Eriguel is indeed much worthy of appreciation and commendation from the local government because he was able to show his passion to serve not only his constituents but also those from other parts of the country.
Former Rep. Eriguel, who had been a dedicated public servant since 1998 in La Union, recently departed to join his Crator last May 12, 2018 when he was gunned down while attending a general assembly at Capas, Agoo town for the candidates of the May 14, 2018 synchronized barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.
Eriguel first held public office as the local chief executive of Agoo town in July 1998 and completed his three consecutive terms on June 30, 2007.
During his term as the town’s local chief executive, Agoo was a hall of Fame awardee as the cleanest and greenest municipality first to third class category Gawad Pangulo sa Kapaligiran in the regional and national levels and that the town as also a 2-time national and regional champion for the best local government unit in literacy promotion in the first to third class municipality category.
The resolution stipulated that even if he was able to reach his maximum of three terms as municipal mayor on June 30, 2007, Eriguel provided continued devoted public service to the public which was highlighted by his outstanding contributions as the appointed adviser to the provincial government of La Union for municipal affairs until June 30, 2010.
In the May 2010 general elections, the resolution noted that Eriguel was elected as a member of the House of Representatives as an official candidate of the Nationalist peoples Coalition (NPC), representing the 2nd district of La Union where he chaired the House committee on health.
Further, he was also a member of the bicameral conference committee who passed the Graphics health Warning Bill which is now in full force and effect in the country.
The resolution added that Eriguel made a supreme sacrifice in the May 2016 general elections when he did not force himself to aspire for his election for the third consecutive time as a member of the House of Representatives and opted to allow his wife Zandra to takeover his position after being elected by the people of the province’s 2nd district to be their representative to the House.
The resolution authored by Councilor Francisco Roberto Ortega VI will be transmitted to the family of Eriguel after Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan shall have affixed his signature to the said document.
Moreover, the resolution will also be forwarded to the provincial government of La Union and the House of Representatives for information, guidance and further needed action.
