TABUK CITY, Kalinga – To ensure the delivery of protective services to evacuees during typhoons, the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) and the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office continue to provide technical assistance to barangays in the proper management of evacuation centers.
As the lead offices for the camp coordination and camp management, these two offices aim to ensure that minimum health and safety protocols are followed in evacuation centers, by providing guidance in preparing for and responding to displacement due to disasters.
Marinel Dorgay, social welfare officer and the focal person of CSWDO’s disaster program said evacuees in camps and camp-like settings should feel safe and be given the help they needed particularly on food and non-food items.
Camp management personnel and volunteers should make themselves always available in the accommodation areas, she added.
Dorgay also emphasized that barangays must establish a camp management desk in order for evacuees to be assisted timely.
The presence of Barangay Peace Action Teams, Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams, Barangay Health Workers or Barangay Nutrition Scholar, and other local health units at evacuation sites must also be established as they are responsible in the observance of the health status of evacuees, said Raul Albert, of the CDRRM Office.
Camp managers in the barangays should be ready to respond to evacuees inside camps, he noted.
The CSWD and CDRRM offices recognize the vital role of camp managers and volunteers in the barangays for helping evacuees recover from the stress they experienced during typhoons. By Darwin S. Serion
