Baguio City – The Cordillera Young Leaders Club (CYLC), in partnership with the Baguio City Public Library, conducted a coffee painting activity at the library premises last July 20, 2024.
Stephen Carl B. Humiwat, Chairman of KordiArts CYLC, spearheaded the activity with support from other CYLC members.
The event featured Marco Dispo Cañas as the speaker, who guided participants through basic painting skills and techniques using coffee as the primary medium. The participants, ranging from beginners to more experienced artists, enjoyed a hands-on experience, learning how to blend coffee to create different shades and textures, and applying these techniques to their own artwork.
“This medium was part of my journey as an artist when I used to learn how to paint. It really helped me to practice and explore with other mediums. Way back before, I tried to learn it with my own understanding through watching video tutorials on YouTube. But now, I’m one of the workshop facilitators to teach and share what I know with those young artists who want to learn,” Cañas remarked.
He also stated that he had a nice experience working with CYLC and as an artist,he was glad that he can teach and share what he knows about the medium and techniques, and he also appreciates their support. Cañas has upcoming group art exhibits in Baguio City, also in Bolinao, Pangasinan, and Metro Manila.
For those interested in joining future events or learning more about coffee painting, the Cordillera Young Leaders Club encourages the public to stay tuned for upcoming announcements. By J.M. Rosario
Congratulations CYLC! The beauty of coffee painting lies in its ability to transform an everyday element into a medium for creativity, producing artworks rich in warmth and depth. The way coffee blends and forms unique textures brings a special charm to each piece. I’m excited to see more of these inspiring activities not just in Baguio but the whole of Cordillera, as they not only nurture artistic talents but also celebrate our region’s culture and creativity. Looking forward to more events like this in the future!
