BAGUIO CITY – Employees of the Department of Agriculture–Regional Field Office Cordillera (DA-RFO CAR) gathered at the Baguio Animal Breeding and Research Center (BABRC) in Dontogan for a meaningful session on work-life balance and stress management on March 14, 2025.
Aida Pagtan, Regional Agriculture and Fisheries Information Section (RAFIS) Chief, gave the welcome remarks and emphasized the importance of balancing life and work while also reconnecting with nature. She highlighted how the activity aimed to promote overall well-being among employees.
Dr. Gwendolyn C. Cayad led an engaging lecture on stress management, helping participants understand stress, its sources, and effective coping mechanisms. She noted that “just enough stress is good to keep you motivated,” emphasizing that while excessive stress can be harmful, a manageable level can drive productivity and personal growth.
The session covered the impact of chronic stress on physical and mental health, touching on issues such as anxiety, hypertension, and diminished immunity. Participants explored strategies such as stress prevention, source management, and relaxation techniques.
They also learned about the unique challenges faced by women in the workplace, including economic barriers and caregiving responsibilities that contribute to heightened stress levels.
To conclude the session on a calming note, participants practiced simple yoga poses, reinforcing the relaxation techniques discussed earlier. The activity provided an opportunity for employees to unwind, stretch, and reflect on ways to integrate stress-relief methods into their daily routines.
By fostering a culture of self-care and mindfulness, DA-CAR continues to support its employees in achieving a balanced and healthier lifestyle. The event left participants feeling refreshed and motivated to apply their newfound knowledge in both their professional and personal lives. By Alyssa Dawn Alalag
