BAGUIO CITY – The Department of Agriculture-Cordillera (DA-CAR) has recorded a 95% registration of farmers in the region under the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture or RSBSA.
Based on the March 14, 2023 data from the DA-CAR Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation Division (PMED), Benguet province including Baguio City recorded the highest number of registered farmers with 71,609 total registrants.
This is followed by Mountain Province registering 51,203 farmers, Ifugao with 44,263, Abra with 44,250, Kalinga with 40,083, and Apayao with 44,250, thus, totaling to 274,968. This is equivalent to around 95% of the agency’s total target of 290,182 farmer registration region-wide.
The purpose of the RSBSA is to have a reliable source of data and information to be used as a basis/reference in the implementation of various programs as well as the formulation and evaluation of policies of DA. Information gathered from the survey are protected by the Data Privacy Act and is treated with confidentiality.
RSBSA further strengthens the integrity of data on the agencies’ target beneficiaries. Since the registry identifies farmers and fisherfolk that the agriculture sector serves, it minimizes duplication and improves the suitability of programs for these beneficiaries.
The RSBSA is a database particular to Filipino farmers, farm workers, fisherfolk, agri-youth, and members of indigenous people (IP). If a 4Ps beneficiary is engaged in agri-fishery activities or can present proof of farming/fishing livelihood, s/he can also register in the RSBSA.
