BAGUIO CITY – An orientation on the Young Farmers Challenge (YFC) Program was recently conducted at the Department of Agriculture Cordillera on October 18, 2024. spearheaded by the Agribusiness and Marketing Division (AMAD) and was participated in by young farmers from Baguio and Benguet.
Aside from the orientation, the ten participants, who were students from Benguet State University, joined the training workshop on Business Model Canvasses (BMC) of their agriculture-related enterprises. The participants were composed of two groups, and the rest were under the individual category. The purpose of the activity was to enhance their enterprises’ business models and prepare the aspiring awardees for the Start-up Category competition in November 2024. Awardees on the competition will be given grants to serve as their start-up capital for their agri-enterprises.
Previously, the same training workshop was done on October 16, 2024, with four aspiring applicants who were given the opportunity to be individually coached by the project team with regards to their business models.
Moreover, all the participants pitched their business models after their learning sessions on the building blocks of the BMC. They were encouraged to bring samples of their products for visualization and promotion on the day of the competition. All of the participants were given the chance to improve their models based on the inputs of the YFC project management team. In addition, they have encouraged the applicants to fully commit themselves to the process of the program.
The Young Farmers Challenge Program is an initiative program by the department that supports and empowers youth to engage in the sustainable development of agribusinesses. Through this program, it also promotes agricultural development, food security, and boosts the livelihood of the farmers and fishermen. By Juby Mae Cayat
