BANGUED, Abra – The DA-RFO-CAR turned over production interventions to farmers in Abra last December 7. These interventions came from the agency’s banner programs, particularly rice, corn, high value crops, and organic agriculture program.
Regional Executive Director Narciso A. Edillo together with Regional Technical Director Danilo Daguio turned over and awarded certificates of claiming of farm machineries, equipment, and production inputs to farmer associations and groups from the province’s 27 municipalities worth P10,127,810.
According Director Edillo, the above interventions must be delivered immediately to the farmer beneficiaries to strengthen the region’s production in rice, corn, and vegetables.
The provincial agriculturist, provincial veterinarian, municipal agriculturist, and agricultural technicians witnessed the turnover of the interventions. Governor of Abra Hon. Maria Jocelyn Valera Bernos was not present during the turnover ceremonies due to another equally important activity that needed her personal attention.
“The Cordillera Region is only 102% self-sufficient in rice. Thus, it contributes only 2% to the nation’s rice self-sufficiency,” explained the director.
The awarding of the DA’s production interventions to farmer associations in Abra will equip and enhance the capabilities of their members to increase their crop production.
The presidents of the farmers associations took turns to thank the current administration in continuing to provide the needed farm inputs and interventions without requiring from them any fee, as was done in the past administrations.
