BAUKO, Mountain Province – Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Alcala distributed a total of P68 million worth of infrastructure projects and various types of agriculture assistance to thousands of farmers in western Mountain Province to help boost their accessibility to the market and sustained production of agricultural crops to improve their living condition.
Alcala turned over to Tadian Mayor Anthony Wooden completed projects such as the P40 million Tadian-Sumadel-Nakawang farm to market road phases I and II, the P10 million rehabilitation of Masla-Duagan farm to market road, the P5 million rehabilitation of the Lubon farm to market road and the P2 million rehabilitation of Sumadel-Babatangan farm to market road.
For Bauko, Secretary Alcala turned over to Mayor Abraham Akilit various infrastructure projects such as the construction of the Sadsadan multipurpose warehouse amounting to P1 million, improvement of Sumey-ang, Bato, Cuba domestic water system worth P1 million, rehabilitation of Guinzadan Sur domestic water system totaling P1 million and rehabilitation of Monamon Proper, Natungleg, Sinto domestic water system costing P1 million.
The DA Secretary also awarded to Gov. Leonard G. Mayaen a check amounting to P3.477 million as assistance for typhoon affected areas in the province, while Bauko got a check amounting to P339,000 as assistance for the enhancement of high value crops and organic agriculture production in the municipality. Tadian also received a similar check amounting to P549,000 as assistance for the enhancement of high value crops and expansion of organic agriculture as well as livestock production in the municipality.
Hundreds of farmers also benefitted from the over P2.5 million worth of farm equipment and materials that were raffled by Secretary Alcala to them during the farmers forum that was organized by the municipal government for the purpose of gathering the sentiments of the farmers on current issues affecting the country’s agriculture industry.
Among those raffled to the farmers were certified seeds, assorted vegetable seeds, several heads of various livestock, hand tractor with plotter and trailer, vermi tea brewer, deep plow with a pari of extra rubber wheel blade and paddle wheel, assorted fertilizers, planting guide, plastic drums, rolls of plastic pipes, several pairs of rabbit and several units of planting equipment.
Mayor Akilit expressed his gratitude to Secretary Alcala and the DA family for visiting the upland municipality and distributing various agriculture projects for the benefit of farmers and to the sustained improvement of the agriculture sector which is the major source of livelihood of the people in the town’s 22 barangays.
