The Department of Agriculture (DA) Ifugao, in collaboration with the Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO), remains committed to developing Ifugao’s agricultural sector by providing production support inputs to address key challenges such as post-harvest losses and limited market access.
According to Daisy Yogyog, DA Provincial Director, they are continuously committed to promoting sustainable and inclusive agriculture.
The establishment of a Provincial Trading Post and Processing Center is a milestone that exemplifies the province’s forward-looking approach in strengthening agri-based livelihoods.
“This facility serves not just as an infrastructure but as a platform for farmers to gain better market access, increase value addition, and move closer to becoming agripreneurs,” noted Yogyog.
The initiatives of the Department of Agriculture and Provincial Local Government Unit (PLGU) of Ifugao are programs that focus on strengthening farmers’ capabilities, improving production and marketing systems, and boosting income while prioritizing environmental sustainability.
Municipal Local Government Units (MLGUs) are also continuously implementing local programs addressing food production, farmer capacity building, climate-resilient agriculture, and marketing initiatives.
These local programs are crucial for extending the reach of national efforts and ensuring they meet the unique needs of each municipality.
Yogyog added, “The DA needs the cooperation, innovation, and openness to new technologies and practices of the farmer farmers.”
She highlighted the farmers’ role not just as food producers but as partners in achieving national food security.
Accordingly, farmers are encouraged to actively participate in training programs, livelihood development, and cooperative production and marketing efforts to sustainably increase farm income.
“Have unity and help each other. We just need cooperation, sincerity, and commitment” Yogyog said.
Further, the agricultural extension workers (AEWs) are dedicated to helping farmers and farm leaders, serving as the vital link between programs and the community. The Municipal Agricultural and Fishery Council (MAFC) and Provincial Agriculture and Fishery Council (PAFC) of Ifugao, on the other hand, provide unwavering service and leadership.
The AEWs commitment to working closely with the government in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of agricultural programs. This is crucial in ensuring inclusive and locally driven progress. Farmers’ voices are vital in addressing their issues and concerns for the DA to solve them effectively.// Glenda G. Alicwas, BSU-DevCom Intern
