TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Barangay Dagupan Centro recently held a successful Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC) meeting on January 15, 2025, bringing together around 60 to 70 participants, including business owners, senior citizens, and youth representatives. The one-day seminar focused on developing strategies to combat the ongoing issue of illegal drug activities within the community.
The significance of a multifaceted strategy was underlined during the meeting, including Intensified Community Monitoring; Increased surveillance via CCTV cameras that need to be maintained and repaired; Increased Public Awareness by educating residents about the risks of drug misuse through frequent educational campaigns; Improved Community Cooperation by encouraging cooperation among citizens, business establishments, and law enforcement to exchange information and report dubious activities.
In his opening remarks, Barangay Chairman George Esteras stressed the need for collective action. “The fight against illegal drugs requires the active participation of every member of our community,” Esteras said. “By working together and maintaining open communication, we can create a safer and drug-free environment for everyone.”
Representing Tabuk City Mayor Darwin Estrañero, Enrique Balliang reiterated the city government’s full support for the barangay’s anti-drug efforts. “Each of us has a responsibility to protect our community,” Balliang said. “I urge all residents to be vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the authorities.”
During the meeting, Chairman Esteras highlighted the recent vandalism of several CCTV cameras within the barangay. He announced that repairs are underway using a P1 million fund allocated by Mayor Esranero. “These restored CCTV systems will significantly enhance our monitoring capabilities and aid in both anti-drug and anti-criminal efforts,” Esteras said. “I appeal to the public, especially the residents of Dagupan Centro, to look after these important assets, as they play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of our community.”
