BAGUIO CITY – The 2024 Dangal ng Bayan awardee from the city government recently shared his secrets that paved the way for him to be chosen as one of the recipients of the prestigious award under the Search for Outstanding Government Worker by the Civil Service Commission (CSC).
Florentino Dela Cruz, Administrative Aide III or utility worker of the City Library, said he did not expect to be conferred the prestigious award as his only thought is just on performing his duties and responsibilities with utmost dedication and excellence.
It did occur to him that an ordinary worker like him can be given the award because the Dangal ng Bayan award is being given to government workers who are able to provide excellent public service and follow the Code of Ethics of government officials and employees.
Further, he did not also expect that that his practice of spending some of his spare time during his days off and holidays to report to the City Library to maintain cleanliness and orderliness, as well as joining the various activities being implemented by the office, form part of the criteria in the selection of those who are given the recognition.
Dela Cruz did not limit his time to learn as he went beyond his core functions in his work but also took on other tasks where he has become a good team player in the office.
According to him, he was fully aware that his additional tasks will not translate to additional compensation that will be reflected in his pay slip, but he believes that this reflects on his personality and the totality of his personhood.
He pointed out that it is a matter of willingness and choice to accept tasks outside of his core functions and a choice for additional learning, self-discovery and personal growth.
He realized that any government worker can actually be conferred with the prestigious award because of industry, patience and dedication to work and being a responsible government worker.
The award that he received, according to him, is not only for his personal use but it is actually for the collective effort of the officials and employees of the city library.
He expressed his gratitude to the leadership of the city library for assigning him tasks that molded him as a well-rounded government worker, and for his colleagues for always extending assistance that allowed him to complete the tasks given to him.
He urged his fellow government workers to continue providing the people with quality public service as being conferred with awards is not based on educational attainment but on the manner by which workers do their assigned tasks for the greater satisfaction of their clientele. By Dexter A. See
