BAGUIO CITY – Department of Agriculture–Cordillera (DA-CAR) Regional Executive Director Atty. Jennilyn M. Dawayan underscored the key roles of women farmers in nation-building during the Flag Raising Ceremony and culmination of the National Women’s Month Celebration on March 31, 2025 in Guisad, Baguio City.
Recognizing their significant roles in agriculture, Dawayan reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to continuously celebrate women farmers’ and fishers’ contributions and constantly support them in improving their agricultural livelihood towards food sustainability and security.
The regional director also congratulated the newly promoted personnel, emphasizing that their selection underwent a thorough series of deliberations to ensure that the personnel to be appointed would perform their duties and responsibilities. She challenged them to meet expectations and encourage teamwork amidst challenges in public service. “I hope we will continue to support each other despite the challenges we face, as public service today is more demanding, with heightened expectations from both leaders and stakeholders,” she stated.
Additionally, Dawayan also shared some insights she gained on product traceability from farm to market, sharing that the agency must try to implement this strategy for more transparency, especially for the consumers. “Let’s start small. Let’s start with organic-certified farms and GAP-certified farms. Through traceability, we can directly track the farm produce, identify the farmer, and determine the product’s origin, among others,” she said.
She also expressed her gratitude to the regional office for allowing her to explore agricultural practices abroad, enabling her to integrate these learnings into her leadership, which she has assumed since last year.
The agency is also gearing up for upcoming activities, particularly Filipino Food Month this April, and the Farmers’ and Fisherfolks’ Month in May. By Cy-j E. Waytan
