Local health authorities underscored that the minimal deaths among vaccinated individuals is not caused by the vaccines inoculated on them.
Assistant City Health Officer Dr. Celiaflor Brillantes explained that the main cause of death of the vaccinated individuals is their alleged co-morbidities which were no longer controlled when they were confined in the different health facilities.
Earlier, the city conducted a mini-study on the reported deaths due to the dreaded Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) and it was uncovered that 96 percent of those who passed away were unvaccinated.
She added that among the co-morbidities of the individuals that were trigged by the deadly virus are diabetes and hypertension where the blood sugar and blood pressure of the patients suddenly shot up beyond the control of the health workers attending to them.
According to her, no particular brand of vaccine was inoculated on the individuals who passed away because of their co-morbidities.
Brillantes stipulated that the available vaccines can prevent individuals from contracting severe COVID-19 and deaths among patients that contract the deadly virus, thus, members of the priority sectors such as the frontliners, senior citizens and persons with co-morbidities must immediately avail of whatever vaccines are available in the different vaccination centers around the city.
Based on the data from the City Health Services Office, there were some 87 COVID-related deaths reported in the city last April when the local government was rolling out the mass vaccination program.
However, the number of COVID-related deaths dropped to 57 in May when there was already increasing acceptance of vaccines being inoculated in the different established vaccination centers.
For the past 2 months, the average COVID-related deaths in the city further dropped to 28 when the local government was at the height of the implementation of the government’s mass vaccination program for the members of the priority sectors, supplemented by the increasing awareness and willingness of people to be vaccinated with whatever available brand.
The medical officer disclosed that the local government is inclined to open more vaccination centers in the various district health centers aside from making available mobile vaccination teams to help in speeding up the inoculation of a bigger part of the population in preparation for the highly contagious and more infections Delta variant.
She called on family members and relatives of senior citizens who cannot go to the vaccination centers to immediately coordinate with their respective barangay officials and the nearest district health center for the scheduling of their vaccination through the mobile vaccination team to help increase the number of inoculated senior citizens.
