Forests and health. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources-CAR, in celebration of the International Day of Forests, conducted activities aimed mainly at creating awareness on the importance and benefits of forests and human health. Other activities provided people with hands-on experience on how to pot and plant trees so they could appreciate and value their role in conserving and nurturing forests.
Some 37 DENR-CAR Regional Office personnel joined a potting activity resulting in 105 potted planting materials.
In Kalinga, the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office Kalinga conducted brushing, ring weeding and mulching of planted bamboo and other forest trees at its Arboretum in Callagdao, Tabuk City.
The Community Environment and Natural Resources Office Pinukpuk, on the other hand, conducted a fuel reduction activity at its Arboretum in Katabbogan, Pinukpuk. With them were some 40 Grade 10 students from St. Theresita’s School. The activity was to educate the participants how to help reduce or prevent forest fires.
Following the Tanudan Municipal Anti-Illegal Task Force Meeting, the CENRO Tabuk conducted an information, education, and communication campaign among the members to enhance their awareness about the importance of forests. Highlighted during the IEC was the Enhanced National Greening Program and Anti-Illegal Logging Protection program.
In Mt. Province, PENRO Mt. Province and CENRO Sabangan leveled off with the Local Government Unit of Sagada about the Sustainable Traditional Indigenous Forest Management Practice initiative of the DENR. By DENR-CAR
