BAGUIO CITY – City officials recently requested the Cordillera office of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-CAR) to install a security gate at the DENR access road to provide security within the said compound, maintain accessibility for the residents and delivery services.
Under Resolution No. 708, series of 2024, local legislators stated that the installation of a security gate at the DENR access road is essential for enhancing the compound’s security while ensuring continued accessibility for residents and delivery services in the area.
Further, the cooperation and support of the concerned agency is essential to implement the said initiative effectively.
Earlier, the council considered a letter dated August 19, 2024 of Councilor Maximo H. Edwin, Jr. forwarding for appropriate action the documents regarding the installation and closure of perimeter fence at the DENR compound, Gibraltar, Baguio City at the expense of the residents and matters, issues and suggestions raised by local legislators and resource persons during the July 29, 2024 regular session of the city council in relation to the proposed resolution that invited as resource persons, in aid of legislation, concerned government agencies and Gibraltar barangay officials to shed light on the notice issued by the DENR-CAR regarding the installation and closure of the perimeter fence at the DENR compound.
The Committee on Laws, Human Rights and Justice, in its 2nd indorsement dated November 22, 2024, stated that it recommended that the proposed resolution be noted.
It also recommended to adopt the suggestion of the Office of the Indigenous peoples and Indigenous Cultural Committees to install a security gate at the DENR-CAR access road that would provide security within the said area, maintain accessibility of the residents and delivery services in the said place.
Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to the DENR-CAR, Gibraltar barangay and other concerned offices of the local government for information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. By Dexter A. See
