BONTOC, Mountain Province – The municipal government, through its Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), has received a serviceable chainsaw donated by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR-CENRO)-Sabangan, with its office located in Cabunagan, Tadian, Mountain Province.
The initiative began when Mayor Jerome “Chagsen” Tudlong, Jr., who also chairs the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC), submitted a request to CENR Officer Manuel Magkachi of DENR-Mountain Province. The request aimed to secure one unit of chainsaw to be used in clearing overgrown trees in preparation for the upcoming rainy season, thereby, reducing potential hazards during heavy rainfall.
In response to this request the DENR-Regional Office, represented by Regional Executive Director Engr. Paquito Moreno, Jr., formalized the donation through a Deed of Donation, which was signed by Mayor Tudlong, representing the municipal government. Witnesses to the signing included CENR Officer Manuel Magkachi and Bontoc MDRRM Officer Johanna Padaen.
With this, Padaen, along with SFO1 Clifford Chinalpan from the Bontoc Municipal Fire Station, received one unit of chainsaw from DENR-CENRO- Sabangan personnel in Cabunagan, Tadian, on February 10, 2025. The chainsaw was confiscated by the DENR-CENRO-Sabangan in 2023 in favor of the government. As part of the agreement, the municipal government covered the Certificate of Registration for the donated chainsaw.
Both Mayor Tudlong and Padaen expressed their gratitude to the DENR for fulfilling the request, emphasizing that the chainsaw will significantly enhance the municipality’s preparedness efforts. By Alpine L. Killa-Malwagay
