CEBU CITY – The Department of Education (DepEd)-International Cooperation Office (ICO) in partnership with the Ministry of Korea- Institute of APEC Collaborative Education (IACE) conducted the 2022 APEC Learning Community Builders (ALCoB) Information, Communication and Technology Volunteer Training among public school teachers of Region 7 at Golden Peak Hotel, Cebu City recently.
This hybrid (face-to-face and virtual) international training together with teachers from Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand is aimed at narrowing the digital divide in the APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) region by sharing Korea’s experience and know-how on ICT and e-learning education.
During the opening, Dr. Gracia Bataluna, Cebu City Curriculum and Instruction Division Chief, welcomed the attendees. She believed, “This is in preparation for the future since this is the need of the times.” “I hope you grab the learning opportunity and have lots of takeaways”, she added.
Meanwhile, Joan Tacadena, ICO Senior Desk Officer, oriented the participants regarding the 5-day training. The courses include utilizing online collaboration tools, unplugged education, community mapping and utilization of CodeWiz in making a finger flute, decorating AR face, creating an arc reactor and controlling sound lamps with voice. On the other hand, Dr. Margareta Consolacion Ballesteros, ICO Director, encouraged everyone to be resilient and heartened the participants that after the rain comes the sunshine and smooth sailing. She said further that attendees have to keep learning for this will benefit their peers, schools and learners.
During the closing program, Dr. Rosa Cabotage, Education Program Supervisor gave words of challenge to the participants while Dr. Salustiano Jimenez, Regional Director, delivered the closing remarks.
Accordingly, participants have to develop tutorial videos on learning courses 5-9 and disseminate one’s learning to their respective schools before August 26 in order to complete the training-workshop.
