TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Campus journalists from across this city convened at the Kalinga National High School for this year’s Division Schools Press Conference held on January 29-30, 2025.
Themed “Nurturing responsible journalism towards Bagong Pilipinas,” the event aims to
empower student journalists and foster responsible campus journalism as a tool for development.
Guided by Division Memorandum No. 371, s. 2024, the DSPC gathered over 500 young writers, broadcasters, storytellers, and photojournalists from various elementary and secondary schools in the Schools Division Office of Tabuk City.
The event featured competitions in news writing, editorial writing, sports writing, column writing, feature writing, photojournalism, copyreading, headline writing and radio/TV broadcasting.
According to Bobby Licudine, Regional School Paper adviser and teacher at Tabuk City National High School, this underscores journalism’s role in truth, accountability, and transparency, encouraging students to tackle topics such as environmental sustainability, digital literacy, and social advocacy.
Participants also received mentorship from professional journalists and educators, preparing them to become proactive and ethical communicators in their communities.
