BAGUIO CITY – The Baguio City Police office (BCPO) and the University of the Cordilleras (UC) recently forged a partnership for the possible development of a road safety application that will contain vital information related to the safety and security of the public when traversing the various roads inside and outside the city.
BCPO Strategic Management Team head Police Col. Judy Jasmin Palicos said that the road safety application will be rolled out within the year to provide motorists with vital information that will guide them as they traverse the various roads and streets around the city to be able to reach their desired destinations either inside or outside the country’s Summer Capital.
Earlier, the BCPO developed the BCPO Baguio View application to guide both residents and tourists on the various traffic advisories, traffic situation around the city, real time situation in key tourist destinations, available parking spaces, hotlines, among others, to guide motorists in their journey around the city.
The BCPO official claimed that the proposed road safety application will serve as part of the various strategies being employed to contribute in addressing vehicular traffic accidents around the city considering the notable increase in the incidents from January to May 27.
She underscored the importance of coming up with a multi-pronged approach in dealing with the current situation because there are various government agencies, local government offices and even the private sector, that are involved in the matter of road safety which warrants their respective suggestions and recommendations that will be incorporated in the overall initiative.
Palicos assured that for the BCPO, law enforcers will be doing their task to strictly enforce traffic rules and regulations aside from those embodied in local ordinances to ensure that violators will be penalized and for motorists to always adhere to the prevailing rules and regulations that are being enforced, which is just part of the solution to the problem.
