City officials recently requested the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) to implement digital inclusion for senior citizens in the city.
Under Resolution No. 612, series of 2024, local legislators stated that to effectively implement the aforesaid cause, continuous training is needed to assist every sector of the community to cope with the digital-driven space and to secure, especially the senior citizens, from the unregulated use of digital platforms or scams.
During the Senior Citizens Officials For A Day (SCOFAD) session held on October 14, 2024, The SCOFAD Council adopted the proposal of SCOFAD Councilor Elizabeth T. Espinosa that earnestly requested the local government through the CSWDO to implement digital inclusion for senior citizens.
The council noted that the State recognizes the vital role of communication and information in nation building.
Further, it affirms its commitment to human development by prioritizing education, science and technology, arts, culture, and sports to foster patriotism and nationalism, accelerate social progress and promote total human liberation and development.
Republic Act 10844 or the Department of Information and Communication Technology Act of 2015 underscores the essential value of information and communication technology as an instrument of good governance and global competitiveness.
The council pointed out that though digital-driven services have significant social actions and services and can be expeditiously delivered to accelerate social progress towards the attainment of the new goal of Smart City management, it is important for all sectors to be part of the digital inclusion to ensure that no one will be left behind.
Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to the CSWDO for information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. By Dexter A. See
