BAGUIO CITY August 12 – The Cordillera office of the Department of Health (DOH-CAR) earmarked a total of P15.2 million to improve two district health centers and provide equipment to thirteen others in the city to help improve the delivery of basic health services to the people in the city’s 128 barangays.
In his letter to Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan, Dra. Amelita M. Pangilinan, DOH-CAR officer-i-charge, said the beneficiaries of the infrastructure component of the assistance are the completion of the Irisan District Health Center amounting to P3.5 million and the completion of the Asin District Health Center amounting to P1.5 million.
On the purchase of equipment for the thirteen health centers around the city, the Pinsao District Health Center received the biggest allocation with a total of P1.467 million worth of equipment while those that will receive P735,000 worth of equipment each include the Atok Trail district Health Center, Campo Filipino District Health Center, Engineer’s Hill District Health Center, Lucban District Health Center, Pacdal District Health Center, Quirino Hill District Health Center, Aurora Hill District Health Center, City Camp District Health Center, Loakan District Health Center, Mines View District Health Center, Quezon Hill District Health Center and Scout Barrio District Health Center.
“The guidelines for the procurement of the equipment strictly states that no office nor health center fixtures, service vehicles, information technology equipment like camera, laptop, LCD, etc. shall be procured,” Pangilinan stressed.
Instead, the DOH-CAR official underscored the units of equipment to be purchased shall be medical, dental, laboratory, sanitation, emergency equipment geared towards the compliance to licensing and accreditation of the district health centers.
According to her, concerned agencies are now evaluating the state of district health centers in the different parts of the country in preparation for licensing and accreditation so that the said units will be authorized to perform minor medical procedures for payment of insurance by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation.
Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan expressed his gratitude to the DOH-CAR family for being able to work out the sourcing of the said funds which will be subsequently used up for the upgrading of the different health centers around the city.
The different district health centers were distributed in the 20 districts of the city to be able to cater to the emergency health needs of the residents living within the barangays under their respective areas of coverage.
“We deeply appreciate the initiative of concerned government agencies in sourcing out adequate resources from their respective central offices in order to improve their facilities that are in the city. The upgrading of our district health centers and the provision of added units of equipment will surely contribute in improving their capabilities to attend to emergency cases being referred to them for immediate medical treatment prior to being transferred to hospitals,” Domogan said.
He cited the importance of good health among the populace in order to sustain their productivity in sourcing out sufficient resources to significantly improve their living condition.
