CONNER, Apayao – Some 106 Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) from Conner Municipality recently completed a training program organized by the Provincial Department of Health Office in partnership with the Provincial Health Office and Conner’s Rural Health Unit.
Held from July 3-5, 2024, at the Conner Municipal Conference Hall, the workshop aimed to equip BHWs with fundamental skills and knowledge vital for delivering effective healthcare services within their communities.
Designed to align BHW competencies with the Universal Health Care (UHC) Act and updated guidelines, the training covered several topics. These included an in-depth exploration of the 2022 DOH BHW Reference Manual, core competencies like understanding BHW roles, and familiarization with key policies such as the UHC Act and RA 7883. Participants also delved into effective communication strategies, problem-solving techniques, and occupational safety practices.
Participants gained insights into monitoring the health status of community members, addressing critical health issues such as nutrition and sanitation, and developing household profiles to tailor healthcare interventions effectively. By Michelle Acantilado
