SABANGAN, Mountain Province – Former three-term Mayor Jupiter C. Dominguez is pushing for the long overdue universityhood status of the State-run Mountain Province State Polytechnic College (MPSPC) to help in further improving the facilities of the institution that will pave the way for the expansion of its courses offered to the youth from inside and outside the province.
Dominguez, who is aspiring for the province’s lone congressional post, stated that MPSPC’s universityhood status is already long overdue and was already overtaken by other similarly situated State-run higher education institutions in the different parts of the cordillera, particularly the Kalinga State University (KSU) and the recently approved Abra State University (ASU).
He pointed out that MPSPC’s universityhood needs the all-out support of concerned government agencies and local governments for the province’s youth to be provided with quality education.
The former local chief executive noted that the move to convert the status of the State-run higher education institution into a university started over a decade ago but the effort by concerned stakeholders did not actually get the appropriate support from concerned authorities.
He claimed that by being a fully pledged university, MPSPC will be provided with the needed funds from concerned government agencies for the upgrading of its facilities, the hiring of teaching and non-teaching personnel among others that will guarantee the provision of quality education to the youth.
According to him, students wanting to get quality education will no longer have to go outside the province because the proposed university will be able to provide them such education that will allow them to be productive citizens of their respective communities.
Dominguez emphasized that good education will definitely be the best inheritance that parents and guardians could give their children and their wards as this could not be easily taken away from them and that they could use their education to become productive citizens.
MPSPC was established through the efforts of the late Rep. Victor S. Dominguez as part of his program to bring higher education institutions closer to the people.
MPSPC gained headway in its efforts to achieve its universityhood status over the past several years but such efforts were not appropriately supported by concerned authorities and could not advance in the House and the Senate.
Dominguez asserted that the universityhood status of MPSPC will be one of the priority legislations once he will be given the chance by the people of Mountain Province to be their representative to the House of Representatives in the 19th Congress to help in realizing the long overdue dream of concerned stakeholders for the higher education institution to be converted into a full pledged university.
