DOST-CAR welcomes 189 new SEI scholars

The Department of Science and Technology-Cordillera Administrative Region (DOST-CAR) records 189 qualifiers from the CAR who are among the 9,776 nationwide qualifiers of the 2023 DOST-Science Education Institute (SEI) Undergraduate Scholarship Programs announced this June 25.

The 189 eventual college freshmen secured slots in a thin 10.36% passing rate from the total of 1,825 CAR examinees who attempted their way into the scholarship grant last March 18–19, 2023.

This year’s pen-and-paper qualifying examination result prompts a 28.57% increase from last year’s 147 passers.

Out of the 189 qualifiers: 80 are from Baguio City; 58 are from Benguet; 22 are from Mountain Province; 16 are from Ifugao; 6 are from Kalinga; 5 are from Apayao; and 2 are from Abra. One hundred nine (109) of them qualified for the RA 7687 scholarship program, and 80 qualified under the Merit Scholarship Program.

Qualifiers to both programs will receive tuition fee assistance of up to P40,000 per academic year for those who will enroll in private higher education institutions (HEIs); P7,000 monthly stipends; P10,000 yearly learning materials and/or connectivity allowance; P1,000 PE/MS allowance; one economy-class round trip fare for those studying outside their home province; premium group health and accident insurance; P10,000 thesis allowance; and P1,000 graduation allowance.

Qualifiers are also advised to stay posted for the Notice of Award (NOA) which will be sent to their email address used in the application process. The NOA will contain instructions and details on the schedule of orientation wherein the qualifier and their parent/legal guardian must attend prior to signing the Scholarship Agreement.

Meanwhile, the 2023 Junior Level Science Scholarship (JLSS) Program is still open. Submission of requirements is accepted until July 28, 2023, thru the JLSS E-Scholarship Application System at https://www.science-scholarships.ph. Regular second-year college students during the 2nd Semester of AY 2022-2023 who are enrolled in DOST-SEI priority S&T courses are eligible for the JLSS Program. By Mark Gonzalo D. Benter
