LA TRINIDAD Benguet – The Department of Science and Technology Cordillera Regional Office invites Grade 12 students to apply for the qualifying examination for the DOST – Science Education Institute 2019 Undergraduate Scholarship Program.
The scholarship is open to graduating students of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) strand and non–STEM students who belong to the upper top five percent of the graduating class who wish to pursue a college degree on Basic and Applied Sciences, Engineering, Science and Mathematics Teaching.
Interested applicants can download the application form at the official website of DOST www.dost.gov.ph and can be submitted to the DOST-CAR Regional Office at KM 6. La Trinidad Benguet or to the Provincial Science and Technology Center in Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga or Mountain Province.
Deadline of application is on or before August 31 while the nationwide examination is set on October 21, 2018.
DOST – CAR scholarship coordinator Dr. Pepita S. Picpican disclosed that for the 2018 DOST – SEI Undergraduate Scholarship Program, there were 225 successful applicants from the Cordillera.
The new scholars accompanied by their parents already had an orientation and signing of scholarship agreement in three batches last May 23 to 25. They will start their higher education studies in their respective S&T – related baccalaureate course this Academic Year 2018 – 2019.
The DOST scholarships include benefits such as P40,000 education assistance for tuition and other school fees per academic year; P10,000 book allowance per year, and P7,000 monthly living allowance.
DOST – CAR Regional Director Dr. Nancy Bantog reiterated DOST’s call to graduating senior high school students to apply for the scholarship which has already benefitted many Cordillera youth.
As of June 30, 2018, 103 DOST scholars have graduated including three Magna Cum Laude and 22 cum laude.
