TABUK CITY, Kalinga– Three employees from the city government were recently accredited by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) as marriage counselors.
Melody Dulawen, Social Welfare Officer IV from the City Social Welfare and Development Office, along with Rodelma Domatog, Population Program Officer II, and Greyniel Gasadan, Population Program Officer III, both from the City Population and Development Office, received their certificates of accreditation today during the regular flag ceremony of the city government. The same were presented by City Mayor Darwin Estrañero.
The three-year accreditation term runs from June 27, 2022, to June 28, 2025.
In an interview with Dulawen, she stated that marriage counselors play a crucial role in society since they support married couples who are experiencing problems in their union and offer guidance and potential ways to help them.
Marriage counselors use the Pre-Marriage Counseling (PMC) manual as a crucial tool to provide accurate and crucial information to engaged couples about marriage and relationships, human sexuality, maternal, child, and neonatal health, family planning, sexually transmitted diseases, responsible parenting, and home management during the Pre-Marriage Orientation and Counseling, according to Dulawen.
The Family Code of the Philippines, also known as Executive Order No. 209, and Administrative Order No. 14 series of 2009, which mandate the accreditation of marriage counselors, require marriage counseling prior to the issuance of marriage licenses, and promote the professional practice of marriage counsellors, are both implemented by DSWD.
