BAGUIO CITY – Cordillera Administrative Region – The Regional Rehabilitation Center for the Youth (RRCY) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development here has in its custody 14 Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL).
These minor youths are presently staying in the region’s rehabilitation Center located at Payda, Bayabas, Sablan, Benguet. As part of their rehabilitation, while they undergo counselling, these minor youths are also being trained in bamboo/tambo craft making, gardening and animal raising, according to Ms. Novelia B. Naisod, Head of the RRCY.
This specific activity aims to redirect their behaviour and attitudes to help them become more productive and responsible individuals; and provide opportunities to acquire social occupational skills and improved self-image. The Center plans to exhibit and sell their produce in the local/municipal trade fairs, Naisod said.
The general objective of the program is to render treatment and rehabilitative services to children in conflict with the law in the Cordillera Administrative Region, to enhance their psychological, emotional and psycho-social well-being.
The RRCY is a facility designed to provide intensive treatment in a residential setting for the rehabilitation of CICL whose sentences have been suspended. It serves as a nurturing out-of-home placement for children in need of rehabilitation.
