TABUK CITY, Kalinga – A livelihood project in Barangay Lacnog, funded under the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) of the Cordillera office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD-CAR) opens today, February 18 .
The beneficiary association is the Tayran SLPA which was granted ₱300,000 assistance for the establishment of their proposed enterprise, a mini grocery with frozen foods, rice, LPG retailing and coffee vending.
Tayran SLPA, consisting of 17 members who are mostly solo parents, is the first recipient of the SLP’s livelihood grant this year.
Present during the blessing of the enterprise and business launching are partners from DSWD-CAR and the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) headed by CSWD Officer Eusebia Edduba and Aida Bermillo, who provided technical assistance during project preparation and completion of necessary documents to facilitate the release of assistance.
Napoleon Ayang-ang, representing Mayor Darwin Estrañero expressed his gratitude to the DSWD-CAR for extending the livelihood project in Lacnog, saying this project would help improve the economic status of the members.
He encouraged the members to use the lesson they learned in managing small business in order for their chosen project to thrive and become sustainable.
City Information Officer Aurora Amilig who addressed the members of the importance of unity and cooperation in an organization.
Another message was delivered by Johnny Maymaya representing Governor James Edduba, thanking the DSWD for bringing the SLP to Lacnog. This project, he said, can empower the women by giving them the opportunity to earn, and use their talent in managing an enterprise.
According to DSWD- CAR representatives, an incentive of ₱300,000 awaits the Tayran SLPA if it passes a series of monitoring and assessment activities to be conducted after a year of business operation. This incentive will provide additional capital for the expansion of the enterprise. This will also motivate beneficiary-associations to use their skills and manage their enterprise well making sure it remains sustainable.
The SLP is being implemented through a two-track program with the first track, the Microenterprise Development Track (MDT), supporting micro enterprises in becoming organizationally and economically viable; and the second track, the Employment Facilitation Track (EFT), assisting participants to access appropriate employment opportunities.
