BONTOC, Mountain Province – The Department of Social Welfare and Development – Social Welfare and Development DSWD-SWAD Office gave updates on its regular programs and services for 2025 during the Monday Program at the Provincial Plaza on June 9, 2025.
According to DSWD-SWAD-Mountain Province Team Leader Carmencita L. Chaluyen, these programs/ services include the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan – Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS), Social Pension for Indigent Senior Citizens, Crisis Intervention Program, Disaster Preparedness and Response, and the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).
The SLP is being implemented this year through the regular fund of the DSWD-SWAD in the amount of Php 1,680,000, benefitting 112 families (Php 15,000 per family) and another Php 7,160,000, benefitting 358 individuals (Php 20,000 per individual). Also, through the Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan Program of the Office of the Presidential Adviser for Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity, a total amount of Php 8,400,000 was allotted to support the SLP, benefitting 28 barangays in the province (Php 300,000 per barangay).
For the KALAHI, this program is being implemented by the DSWD-SWAD in 11 barangays in Mountain Province – four in Bontoc and seven in Paracelis.
In support of senior citizens, a total amount of Php 10,502,000 was allotted to fund the social pension of 10,502 indigent senior citizens in the province.
For the Crisis Intervention Program, the assistance and services are classified into two categories – financial assistance through the Ayuda sa Kapos ang Kita Program and Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations and food assistance through food items/packs. Under the financial assistance, the following amounts were allotted to support the following numbers of beneficiaries: Php 9,303,000 – 829 individuals seeking medical assistance; Php 3,140,000 – 305 individuals/families seeking funeral assistance; Php 3,259,000 – 473 students seeking educational assistance; Php 58,788,000 – 15,881 individuals seeking food assistance; and Php 4,295,000 – cash relief for 1,358 individuals.
As for food assistance, 540 boxes of assorted food items were given to farmers in Bauko (210 boxes), patients at the Bontoc General Hospital and Luis Hora Memorial Regional Hospital (200 boxes), and Mountain Province District Jail (130 boxes).
In addition, for the Disaster Preparedness and Response Program, nine families whose houses were affected by structural fires were assisted with relief goods. In addition, through its Risk Resilience Program on Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation through cash-for-work under the LAWA at BINHI, the DSWD-SWAD is aiming to benefit 1,250 individuals/families in the municipalities of Bontoc, Natonin, Paracelis, Sadanga, and Sagada.
Finally, for the 4Ps, 14,105 children coming from 7,126 registered clean and active households were being assisted to support their health and education through family development sessions.
Meanwhile, Chaluyen, on behalf of the DSWD-SWAD, expressed her profound gratitude to the different government agencies for their unwavering support in the delivery of their agency’s program and services to the people.
In closing, Provincial Administrator John K. Likigan, on behalf of the Provincial Government and Governor Bonifacio C. Lacwasan, Jr., expressed his commendation to the DSWD -SWAD for successfully hosting the Monday Program and for being one of the frontline partners of the Provincial Government in bringing social services to the people of Mountain Province.
