LUNA, Apayao – The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT)-Apayao conducted an orientation on the Philippine National Public Key Infrastructure (PNPKI) for the employees of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Apayao on May 17, 2024, at the DICT-Apayao Provincial Office.
This orientation focused on Department Circular No. 006-20, also known as the Guidelines on the Application and Issuance of PNPKI Digital Certificates for External Clients during the State of Public Health Emergency, released by the DICT on April 2, 2020. This circular opens applications for Digital Certificates to private citizens, government organizations, and employees, serving as digital IDs containing the user’s personal data.
The orientation highlighted the importance of ensuring confidentiality, authenticity, integrity, and non-repudiation of electronic transactions and documents, particularly during the COVID-19 crisis.
DTI personnel registered for their digital certificates using the PNPKI Online Registration System (ORS), a considerable step towards enhancing the security and authenticity of their digital signatures for online transactions.
Digital certificates are crucial for modern cybersecurity, enabling secure online interactions, authenticating identities, and preserving data integrity. The PNPKI was designed to facilitate the secure electronic transfer of information across various network applications, including private email, online banking, and e-commerce.
Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) enables secure communication over public networks, such as the Internet, by using digital certificates. PKI encompasses the technology, software, personnel, policies, and processes needed to create, manage, distribute, utilize, store, and revoke these certificates. As one of the primary services provided by the DICT, PKI ensures secure and reliable online transactions, thereby enhancing public trust in the government. By Krizza Joy Castillo
