TABUK CITY, Kalinga — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Kalinga is urging workers in the service and repair industry to obtain the National Certificate (NC) Level II from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
According to DTI, securing the NC II certification demonstrates the expertise and competence of workers such as mechanics, electricians, and technicians in the automotive, electronics, and repair sectors.
This certification not only enhances their professional credibility but also provides tangible proof of their skills and knowledge, fostering trust among employers, colleagues, and customers.
The NC II certification is a mandatory requirement for shop accreditation by the DTI.
Shops engaged in electronics, motor vehicle repair, air conditioning, and refrigeration that employ personnel without an NC II certification have been issued notices of violation.
The list of non-accredited shops has been forwarded to the Business Permits and Licensing Office (BPLO) to serve as a reference during the issuance of business permits.
In line with this, the BPLO will deny the renewal of business permits for shops listed by the DTI that do not meet the accreditation requirements.
DTI emphasizes that accreditation provides assurance of safety and quality to consumers by preventing unsafe and unprofessional practices. It ensures that service and repair enterprises deliver ethical, competent, and high-quality services.
The department also requests owners of service and repair businesses in the city to prepare the following documents: List of equipment and their corresponding values, List of employees, Dealership agreements covering a period of three to five years and Minimum insurance coverage details. In a recent meeting attended by employers and workers from the service and repair sector, Victor Benganio and Ma. Cecilia Baral served as speakers, with support from BPLO Pierre Galicia.
