LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Eastern La Trinidad National High School in Beckel used its semestral break to hold their school intramurals last October 26 to 28 due to the series class postponements where the Unit 4, Blue Warriors, emerged champions by garnering 18 gold medals, 13 silvers and 13 bronzes.
The intramurals’ theme was “21st Century Learners: Sports Engagement Towards the Realization of the Country’s Aspiration”. Also making this year’s high school Intramurals different from previous years was the introduction of their Grade 11 from the Senior High School. The team was identified as Unit 5, monickered the Pink Rangers.
It still attracted the four usual participating teams: Unit 1, the Green Archers from Grade 7; Unit 2, the Yellow Fist from Grade 8; Unit 3, the Red Stallion from Grade 9; Unit 4, the Blue Warriors from Grade 10.
After the dust settled, Unit 3 settled for first runner-up honors, Unit 2 got second runner-up, Unit five was third runner-up, while the youngest team, Unit 1, completes the rear.
The event was originally scheduled on October 19 but was postponed by the teachers headed by the school principal Alfonso C. Doriano due to typhoon Lawin.The postponement also forced students to accomplish wavers signed by their guardians permiting them to participate in the three day activity being a non-school day.
Danrey C.Velo, Principal of the Bravehearts Martial Arts Institute, spoke to the participating athletes as guest. He used his personal experiences as TaeKwonDo enthusiast to inspire students to consider sport. He also emphasized how the sport could be used in the tertiary level as varsity members.
The intramurals was led by sports coordinator Abraham Tumbaga with the following events played: Taekwondo, Bunong Braso, Archery, Chess, Sepak Takraw, Table Tennis, Athletics, Badminton, Lawn Tennis, Basketball and Volleyball.
A traditional parade was held and participated by students with their teachers and coaches was on the 26th, opening day, followed after the lighting of the friendship urn by Abegail P. Juan, Archery player during the CARAA 2016 then the cheering competition.
The search for Mr. and Ms. Intramurals was done in the afternoon with Mr. Vincent P. Epler and Ms. Xenna A. Napat-a bringing home the crown.
A marathon was conducted on October 27th. The runners answered the gun at 6AM, taking off at Sitio Lamut to Central Beckel via Shilan-Suyok National Road. Jefferson Wanden and Myra Bato were the first to cross the finish line for the male and female categories, respectively.
In basketball, Oshwald Matias was awarded as the MVP for male division and Monica Torio for female. Rookie of the Year honrs went to Mariel Aniban.
The three day activity was also held in preparation for the coming District Meet on November 10 to 11 to be held at Benguet Sports Complex, Wangal.
