BAGUIO CITY – The Cordillera office of the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB-CAR) recently awarded the various individuals, groups and local governments that were able to help the agency implement programs and projects geared towards the preservation and protection of the environment.
EMB-CAR regional director Reynaldo S. Digamo issued a citation to its regional awardee, Jojet Lamberto Reglos Mondares, for his unique and commendable contribution to waste diversion and showcasing his initiative in the art of painting through the use of waste plastic materials.
Further, the cleanest and greenest barangays in the region included Ambiong, La Trinidad, Benguet for Category C; Pindungan, Kiangan, Ifugao for Category D, and Magsaysay, Tabuk City, Kalinga for Category B.
For municipalities with best practices and exemplary contributions in the implementation of environmental laws in their areas, the awardees are Luna, Apayao; la Trinidad, Benguet; Alfonso Lista, Ifugao; Manabo, Abra; Bontoc, Mountain Province and Tinglayan, Kalinga while Apayao was adjudged as the province with the best practices and exemplary contribution in the implementation of environmental laws in the region.
For having the best materials recovery facilities operated by a local government unit, the awardees were Mankayan, Benguet; San Juan, Abra; Luna, Apayao; Alfonso Lista, Ifugao; Tabuk City, Kalinga and Bontoc, Mountain Province.
The awardees for the most improved local government unit in the implementation of the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act or Republic Act (RA) 9003 through sustained efforts and commendable initiatives were San Juan, Bucay and Pilar, Abra; Pudtol, Calanasan and Sta. Marcela, Apayao; Sablan, Itogon and Baguio City, Benguet; Lamut, Kiangan and Asipulo, Ifugao; Tabuk City and Balbalan, Kalinga and Paracelis, Bauko and Sagada, Mountain Province.
The awarding of the plaques of recognition to the winners were given during the opening program of the 3rd Cordillera Environment Summit that was held last week at the Hotel Elizabeth in Baguio City.
Director Digamo said that the achievements of the awardees should serve as inspiration to other local officials to strongly support environmental preservation and protection initiatives being initiated by concerned government agencies and the private sector to ensure the prevalence of a clean and green environment beneficial to the present and future generations of inhabitants.
He said that something must be done to make sure that people will not live in a polluted environment which will greatly affect the quality of life in their places.
Digamo rallied the people to practice effective and efficient solid waste disposal in their homes because by doing so, they are helping the government in the realization of a clean and green environment and prevent the existence of unnecessary pollutants in the bodies of water, in lands and in the air because people deserve to live in a balanced ecology for better quality of life.
