Micro, small and medium enterprises, also known as MSMEs, are among the Philippines’ most vital assets to a drinking economic growth, creating employment and fostering innovation. Events such as MSME Artisan Village Market aim to spread awareness and provide support for local brands and artists across the country.
According to the Philippine Senate Economic Planning Office’s 2012 report, The MSME sector is made up of 99.6% of all businesses in the country. Although there has not been an updated report, the One Town, One Product (OTOP) Philippines Act of 2022, emphasizes that the government continues to support these businesses.

This support is also reflected in community-driven initiatives like MSME artisan village market, which provides local entrepreneurs a space to promote and market their work.
For business owners like Ms. Jessica of El Gara, a jewelry shop, these events impact her business well. “Dahil maikling lang ang time (for the booths), there is a sense of urgency, so nakakahikayat siya ng consumers natin na mas bumili,” she exclaims, highlighting that it encourages immediate customer engagement and sale increase.
As MSME continues to grow and serve great purpose to the economy of the country. Supporting local business also means investing in the country’s future and local artists. Micro, a small or medium business, deserves as much support as the others. By choosing local, we don’t just buy the product but we also help sustain the livelihoods, ignite innovation and continue to keep the Filipino craftsmanship alive. By Meann Henderson
