TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The Provincial Science and Technology Office (PSTO) Kalinga, in collaboration with the city government of Tabuk and Kalinga State University (KSU), conducted an initial preparatory meeting to discuss a potential entry from the city for the upcoming DOST Search for Philippine Smart and Sustainable Communities Award for LGUs.
The prestigious recognition will be held during the 3rd International Smart City Exposition and Networking Engagement (ISCENE) 2025, set to take place on May 22–25, 2025, at the Isabela Convention Center in Cauayan, Isabela.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Provincial Science and Technology Office–Kalinga and the Tabuk City Smart Team, is being facilitated through Aurora Amilig, Focal Person and Head of the City Public Information Office (CPIO).
Tabuk City aims to showcase its innovative and sustainable practices in urban and rural development as it competes for national recognition.
The meeting on April 21 aims to gather insights, suggestions, and relevant data to strengthen the city’s official entry.
In attendance were PSTO Kalinga Representative Dexy Catacutan, KSU Vice President for Research, Development and Extension Services Lope Buen together with faculty members Christina Ammakiw and Christina Chomeg, Amilig and other CPIO staff, and City Health Services Office representative Jecibel Laureta.
The DOST Smart and Sustainable Communities Award recognizes outstanding efforts of local governments in implementing science, technology, and innovation-driven solutions for the benefit of their communities.
The initiative supports the broader goal of promoting inclusive and sustainable development in both urban and rural areas across the Philippines. By Ian Addatu
