In celebration of the Philippine Environment Month with the theme “No to Waste: Advancing Circular Economy towards #BeatPlasticPollution,” the Watershed and Water Resources, Research Development, and Extension Center (WWRRDEC) of the Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau (ERDB) conducted an educational event at Loakan Elementary School, Baguio City on June 27, 2023.
WWRRDEC, together with OJT students from Saint Louis University (SLU), Baguio City conducted an interactive session on the importance of reducing plastic waste and promoting proper waste management. The OJT students discussed the seven (7) types of plastic and shared practical tips and strategies to minimize plastic consumption and waste generation.
Educational games were also conducted to ensure an engaging and memorable experience during the session. Furthermore, the DENR advocacy song “Kung Walang Aksaya, Masaya” was danced by the Grade 6 pupils led by the SLU student-interns and Shanum, the WWRRDEC mascot. These interactive activities fostered a sense of excitement among the students while instilling the importance of actively combating plastic pollution.
As the Philippine Environment Month celebration ends, the success of this event serves as a reminder that small actions, such as reducing plastic waste, can have a profound impact on the planet. WWRRDEC remains committed to its mission of promoting circular economy applications and safeguarding the environment for generations to come. By Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau-DENR
