TABUK CITY, Kalinga – In observance of Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, the city government, through the City Health Services Office, hosted a special health forum for day care workers across the city on May 23, 2025, at the City Hall Conference Hall.
The event highlighted the importance of health education and wellness among frontline educators, with a strong emphasis on cancer prevention and healthy living.
Mayor Darwin Estrañero, in a message delivered by Jesse Maguia, Supervising Administrative Officer of the City Public Information Office, expressed gratitude to the day care workers for their unwavering dedication to educating the youth of Tabuk.
“You can beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and in the manner in which you live. Live your life by your own terms, not cancer’s,” Mayor Estrañero quoted the late ESPN sportscaster Stuart Scott, inspiring attendees to embrace a life of purpose and wellness.
The mayor also emphasized the significance of adopting a healthy lifestyle, encouraging attendees to avoid skipping meals, stay hydrated, avoid overexertion, and prioritize rest.
“Mga kailyan, let me be clear: Serving the people is an honor. But it must not come at the cost of your health, your family, or your peace of mind,” he stressed.
Speaking directly to the women in attendance, Mayor Estrañero reminded them that maintaining a healthy lifestyle is not an act of vanity, but an act of love for themselves and their families.
He encouraged them not to take up smoking, reduce sugary and alcoholic beverages, and stay active not just for appearance, but to be able to enjoy milestones like watching their children grow and spending quality years with their spouses.
“Let that be your motivation work hard, but also live smart. Don’t let stress and sickness be your boss,” he added.
Mayor Estrañero concluded with a firm commitment to support health initiatives and wellness programs for city employees and constituents alike.
“We will invest in you not just as employees, but as people,” he ended.
The forum served as both an educational and motivational gathering, reinforcing the city’s commitment to holistic health and well-being for its public servants. By Edward Joseph Gacuya
