ITOGON, Benguet February 09 – Former Mayor Atty. Victorio T. Palangdan died after he allegedly succumbed to cardiac arrest in his residence at Tuding, here, early Thursday morning. He was 65.
Palangdan served as the 3-term mayor of the municipality from 22013 to 2022 before losing his congressional bid to incumbent Rep. Eric Yap during the May 9, 2022 synchronized national and local elections.
He also served as the president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines – Benguet chapter while serving his third term as the town’s local chief executive.
Before entering the political arena, he was a private law practitioner being the senior lawyer of the Palangdan law office from 2010-2013.
From 2001-2010, he served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Benguet electric Cooperative (BENECO) where he also served as the president of the same during the said term.
Palangdan was also the Assistant provincial Prosecutor II from 2005 to 2009 but also served as Assistant Provincial Prosecutor I from 1997 to 2005. He was also a prosecutor at the provincial prosecutor’s office in Benguet from 1987 to 1997.
He was a junior member of the Fernando law office from 1986 to 1987.
Palangdan also acquired experiences in agriculture work where he was a Farm Management technologist II at the office of the Provincial Agriculturist from 1985 to 1987. And as a Farm management Technologist I in the same office from 1981 to 1985.
Among the awards that he was able to bring in to Itogon include the Seal of Child Friendly governance in 2018, National Organic Achiever’s Award in 2017, Seal of Good Local Governance in 2016 and 2017, excellent rating on the implementation of the Anti-Red Tape Act given by the Civil Service Commission (CSC), excellent rating based on the public perception and financial management assessment tool, bestowed by the Department of Budget and management.
He is survived by his spouse and several siblings who are all adults.
