BAGUIO CITY – The City Health Services Office (CHSO) underscored that health is one of the most important aspects of the freedom of the people.
Acting City Health Officer Dr. Celia Flor Brillantes, during last Monday’s regular flag raising ceremony, said that having good health allows us to effectively and efficiently work, study and succeed in various endeavors of one’s journey to a good life.
Further, she claimed that good health also gives us the freedom to do the things that will allow people and their respective families to enjoy the blessings of life, especially in this challenging time.
The city health official noted that by giving importance on health and the implementation of health policies and programs such as information and education campaigns on good nutrition, regular exercise and seeking proper medical attention or regular checkup, people can keep their bodies strong and avoid contracting illnesses that may compromise their health condition.
According to her, the implementation of mental health programs by the local government is one of the strategies in enhancing the health condition of officials and employees because a strong mind and body will not only provide individual benefits but also similar ones to the whole community.
Brillantes stipulated that giving time to take care of mental health through a 2-hour mental wellness break that will be implemented by the local government next month, the city is giving emphasis on the importance of self-care and mental wellness.
Moreover, regular rest or unwind is key in maintaining good mental health condition, especially with the prevailing challenges and the daily stress of life.
She added that the annual medical checkup of the employees is another important move in taking care of their health and being productive in their work for them to excel in the discharge of their duties and responsibilities as public servants.
The local government department head explained that with the conduct of the annual medical checkup of government workers, whatever illnesses could be given appropriate medical attention by the health officers to avoid further complications that may affect their health condition and the performance of their assigned work.
She emphasized that the results of the annual medical checkup will also guide them in providing the needed interventions that will help in addressing the health problems being experienced by the employees based on their recommended diagnosis.
Brillantes asserted that the implementation of healthy lifestyle practices such as actively participating in the biggest Loser Challenge is just one of the effective ways to maintain good health and avoid contracting illnesses like hypertension, high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes and cancer, thus, people must adhere to good nutrition, regular exercise, proper sleep among others for them to remain healthy.
She said that the significant loss of weight and being involved in physical activities will greatly contribute in reducing the chance of contracting diabetes and cancer. She disclosed that proper nutrition and avoidance of too much food can also help in controlling one’s blood pressure and improving overall health.
Brillantes expressed her gratitude to the City Council Committee on Health and Sanitation, Ecology and Environmental Protection chaired by Councilor Betty Lourdes F. Tabanda for supporting the sustainable implementation of the local government’s health programs, projects and activities. By Dexter A. See
