BAGUIO CITY- In celebration of family month, activities involving government offices, senior citizens, the academe, peace and order personnel, socio-civic and non-government organizations; were agreed on during the steering committee meeting at the City Social Welfare and Development Office last week.
Said activities was launched Monday, Sept. 3, during the flag raising ceremonies at the city hall grounds, but a Media kapihan with the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) on Sept. 7 at the CSWDO conference hall kicks-off all activities.
Council Committee chair on Women and Public Services Lilia Farinas, City Social Welfare and Development officer Betty Fangasan are expected to be members of the panel for the media forum.
Simultaneously, from 8 to 11AM on September 7, a lecture on laws on civil registration, community protocol and networking for daycare workers as sponsored by the Balikatan Sa Kaunlaran (BSK) is conducted at the Senior Citizen Center Function Hall.
For the mass wedding on Sept. 22 at the SM event center, couple applicants are urged to comply with requirements for them to attend the marriage enrichment counseling on September 13, from 1 to 5 PM at the city multi-purpose hall. Scheduled tree planting at Burnham Park, is part of the compliance.
Interested couples may get in touch with Councilor Farinas’ staff, or the CSWDO staff (tel no.442-38-42/442-7893), at upper Session road.
On September 14, from 8 to 11 AM, the Health Services Office (HSO), Baguio Center for Young Adults (BCYA) and BSK shall conduct an Enabling Adolescent Girls for Health and Development forum with 70 participants, at the Senior citizen center function hall.
On September 21, from 4 to 5PM a Zumba event with three facilitators shall be conducted at the city hall grounds. Interested individuals are invited to join the family-oriented activity, Councilor Farinas said.
Family members of elderly individuals or caregivers are invited to attend a forum at 1:00 PM on Sept. 27 at the city multi-purpose hall. The activity is sponsored by the federation of senior citizens in the city.
A couples’ romantic night for selected couples is scheduled on Sept. 28, with dinner, games, fun and surprises. The venue and other details are up for announcement at a later date, it was known.
At 5 AM on the last Saturday of September, a 3 to 5 km family fun run starts at Burnham Park with participants on an uphill climb to Harrison road and UP drive back to the starting point. The Baguio City Police Office provides security, water and other emergency provisions along the way, it was assured.
Other school and home-based trainings are being scheduled, including family day in the barangays, family day for child development workers and day care workers, family enrichment program by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for selected families in seven barangays.
The steering committee led by Councilor Farinas, women leaders Liza Bulayongan of the OCSWDO and Marlene De Castro of the Baguio Center for Young Adults, Police Officer Armando Gapuz, Special Services Division –City Mayors Office head Noel Mabutas, and other office representatives from the Department of Education, HSO, and non-government organization, agreed to include information dissemination on safe environment oriented practices; on gardening health and nutrition, the no-smoking, and plastic-free community in the celebration of family week.
