BAUKO, Mountain Province – A 61-year old farmer died after he was bumped by an alleged speeding van along the Bontoc-Cervantes road, particularly at sitio Picao, Poblacion, here, recently.
Senior Superintendent Cornelio Comila, officer-in-charge of the Mountain Province Provincial Police Office, identified the victim as Magdalnea Calado Modawan, 61, married farmer, and a resident of Banao, Bauko, Mt. Province while he named the suspect as Sandy Langbayan Valeriano, 62, married, driver and a resident of Bila, Bauko, Mt. Province.
Initial police investigation showed the vehicle came from Bila and was bound for Abatan when upon reaching the place of incident, the victim suddenly crossed the road that caused her to be hit by the vehicle.
The victim was rushed by the van driver to the Abatan Rural Health Unit for initial medical treatment before she was transferred to the Luis Hora Regional Memorial Hospital where she reportedly expired while undergoing intensive medical attention.
The suspect voluntarily surrendered to the Bauko Municipal Police Station and his vehicle was reportedly temporarily impounded pending the results of the investigation.
