CABUGAO, Apayao – A 44-year old farmer died after he was allegedly shot to death by still unidentified gun-wielding suspects along the Apayao river at the town proper here, Monday.
Senior Superintendent Felix Dayag, officer-in-charge of the Apayao Provincial Police Office, identified the victim as Gregorio Saleng Rufina, 44, married, farmer and a resident of Cabugao, Apayao.
Initial police investigation showed the victim, together with his wife, nephew and younger brother, came from barangay Magabta and were on their way home when a burst of gunfire that emanated from a still undisclosed direction was heard.
The victim then sought the assistance of his wife because of the gunshot wound that he sustained prompting her to rush him to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
The victim reportedly sustained a lone gunshot wound on his right chest that caused his instantaneous death.
The motive of the case is still unknown considering that his companions were not able to identify the suspect as it was already ark when the incident happened.
